Definition: it is a device used to maintain tempo in music. It produces steady audible click beat.

Etymology: It comes from two Greek words, "Metron" (measure) and "Nomos" (law) meaning Law of measure. 

Meaning and Usage: It is used by musicians to keep track of timing and to maintain consistent tempo while consistent tempo while practicing. The tempo is measured in beats per minute (BPM).
