Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian government has launched the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. This ambitious solar rooftop panel scheme aims to provide free energy to one crore households by facilitating the installation of rooftop solar systems. The initiative focuses on empowering homes, contributing to environmental sustainability, and job creation.

 

Key Highlights of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana:-

 

Objective and Scope

  • The primary goal of the scheme is to install rooftop solar panels and provide free energy to one crore households, offering up to 300 units per month.
  • The scheme operates under the National Solar Mission, aligning with India's commitment to harness solar power and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources.

 

Central Financial Assistance (CFA)

The scheme provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to incentivize the installation of residential rooftop solar systems.

  • The subsidy amounts to Rs 30,000 for a 1 kW system, Rs 60,000 for 2 kW systems, and Rs 78,000 for 3 kW systems or higher, based on current benchmark prices.

 

Application Process

  • Interested households can register on the official portal pmsuryaghar.gov.in to avail benefits under the scheme.
  • The National Portal facilitates the application process, offering information on system sizes, benefits calculators, vendor ratings, and more.

 

Low-Interest Loan Products

  • Households have the option to access collateral-free, low-interest loan products at approximately 7% interest rates for the installation of residential rooftop solar systems up to 3 kW.

 

Application Steps

  1. Register on the portal, providing necessary details such as state, electricity distribution company, electricity consumer number, mobile number, and email.
  2. Log in using consumer number and mobile number, and apply for the rooftop solar system.
  3. Upon feasibility approval, get the solar plant installed by a registered vendor.
  4. After installation, submit plant details, apply for a net meter, and obtain a commissioning certificate.
  5. Submit bank account details, and the subsidy will be credited within 30 days.
